Boeing Leads YTD Commercial Orders But Airbus Closes Gap

After trailing rival Boeing for most of the year, Airbus’s commercial aircraft orderbook surged in the third quarter, as the company logged 560 commercial aircraft orders—11 more than Boeing—placing the two manufacturers in a near neck-and-neck competition for the year-to-date grand total.

At the 2014 third-quarter mark, Boeing had 1,083 orders and Airbus had 1,068. Boeing’s net commercial aircraft order count for the first three quarters was 977, versus Airbus’s 788.
