Alenia Aermacchi Selects Engine For M345

LONDON — Alenia Aermacchi has selected the Williams International FJ44-4M turbofan to power its updated M345 military trainer aircraft.

The 4M model of the engine is a fully-aerobatic version of the FJ44-4A and was selected after formal requests for proposals were sent out to several engine manufacturers, the company said Oct. 9.

The current version of the M345, which was initially developed as the SIAI Marchetti S.211 in the 1980s, is now fitted with the Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5C turbofan.
