Sikorsky Keeps Focus On U.S. Army AAS As Raider Rolls Out

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — Sikorsky has rolled out the first S-97 Raider high-speed armed scout helicopter prototype and is beginning ground tests leading to first flight planned by year’s end.

The 220-kt. S-97 is the second helicopter built with Sikorsky’s X2 Technology rigid coaxial-rotor compound helicopter configuration. The X2 concept demonstrator exceeded 260 kt. in 2010.

The prototype was unveiled on Oct. 2 at Sikorsky’s developmental test center here. A second aircraft is under construction.
