NEW DELHI — An Indian army Cheetah helicopter crashed in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Oct. 1, killing the two pilots and an engineer.

The accident occurred at 7:45 a.m. local time, shortly after the aircraft took off on a routine sortie from an army aviation base in Bareilly. It crashed in Nakatiya, a rural area of Bareilly, an army officer says.

“The chopper appeared to be in trouble moments after liftoff. Two minutes later, it caught fire and crashed,” he says.
